Based: Cape Town

Peter Narun obtained his Bachelor of Music Degree from the University of Cape Town, graduating with Distinction in Classical Guitar. He went on to study for his Master of Music Degree in Performance at the University of KwaZulu-Natal, which he graduated Cum Laude after a series of public recitals at the Howard Theatre in Durban.

Peter’s debut solo classical guitar album Origin was released at the end of 2010. Shortly thereafter the album was selected as Fine Music Radio’s album of the week, and continues to be played regularly by the radio station.

Peter has an ongoing collaboration with violinist Kerryn Torrance, forming the duo Take 2. He has also performed and recorded with a number of Cape Town’s finest musicians  and ensembles, including the Cape Town Tango Ensemble, Playing With Fire Klezmer Band, clarinet player Matthew Reid, jazz vocalists Lisa Bauer and Abigail Pieterson, and multi-instrumentalist Nicky Jansen. He has performed in the Cape Town Concert Series, The Art of Guitar Concert Series, and the Darling Voorkamerfest, and given concerts at venues such as the Baxter Theatre, the Artscape Arena, St George’s Cathedral, Evita se Peron, and Rust en Vrede Gallery. He has had the rare opportunity for a guitarist of performing with the Cape Philharmonic Orchestra in Rossini’s opera The Barber of Seville , and received a master class from acclaimed Russian guitarist and composer Nikita Koshkin.

Peter teaches guitar at the Music Departments of Herschel Girls School and St Cyprian’s School, he regularly adjudicates the guitar section of the Cape Town Eisteddfod, and is external examiner for both undergraduate and postgraduate performance examination recitals at the University of Cape Town.
