Based: Durban
When people talk about “That girl on the violin”, chances are pretty strong they are talking about Jane Baillie.
A versatile sought after musician, and dynamic performer; Jane has become the go-to girl for all things violin, especially in her hometown of Durban, South Africa.
With a masters degree in music behind her as well as 9 years as a professional violinist in the KZN philharmonic orchestra, you can be assured that Jane is not just a pretty face, but she knows her stuff. She has also performed as an electric violinist on the Barnyard Theatre circuit, as well as being performing as part of the live string section on stage with artists such as Michael Buble, Ronan Keating and Josh Groban on their respective SA tours. From classical, to pop, to rock, and dance music, Jane can and has done it all.
Jane is no stranger to the corporate scene, and performs frequently in Durban and around the country as an electric violinist, either as a soloist, or a collaborator with other musicians, dancers and artists for specialized performances.
Because of her versatility as a musician and performer, she is able to adapt and improvise to create and curate a perfect musical compliment and experience for each event she plays at. She performs both as a classical acoustic violinist for a touch of traditional elegance, as well as an electric violinist for a more upbeat, modern feel and more energetic performance.
She performs as a soloist, but also along with her string quartet, Quattro Femmes.
Quattro Femmes performs as a full classical or electric string quartet a la Bond, or also very often going forward, Jane and the cellist Nina will perform as a electric violin and electric cello duo.
With performances ranging from Dolphins by Starlight, the Playhouse Christmas Extravanganza, Charlene Princess of Monaco Foundation to name a few, Nina and Jane have taken this branch of Quattro Femmes, QF duo, to new heights, showing that if it takes two to tango, they may be the two for the job!
