Gaabo Motho translated means “Where one belongs”. The Gaabo Motho Tenors have been working together since 2006. The Gaabo Motho Tenors consists of Tebogo, Mmusi, Thabiso and Phenye. The objective of the Gaabo Moto Tenors is to provide quality entertainment that appeals to a wider spectrum of spectators. They perform the following genres: opera, traditional South African, RnB and pop songs. All four tenors graduated from the Vocal Arts Department at the Tshwane University of Technology in Pretoria. The tenors enjoy a wealth of classical experience. Their different voices blend together excellently to create powerful harmonies and beautiful melodies. This results in a rapture of classical music that is proudly South African.
The Gaabo Motho Tenors have the following major accomplishments:
- Entertained guests at a function in Düsseldorf as an introduction to the 2010 Soccer World Cup.
- Sang the South African National Anthem in the stadium in Leverkusen before the friendly match between Germany and South Africa.
Tebogo
Started learning the trombone at an early age before switching to voice and guitar.
Mmusi
Was exposed to classical music at an early age, singing in school and community choirs. At 17, he became a tenor soloist at the Ga-Rankuwa Youth Choir and competed at the South African Choral Music Associations competitions. There he became the North West Province’s tenor champion. This is where he decided on a career in opera.
Thabiso
Was a church and school choir veteran. Thabiso represented the North West Province at the Tirisano School Choral Eisteddfod in 2002. In 2004 he sang in the State Theatre’s production of Verdi’s La Traviata.
Phenye
Was introduced to opera through his participation in school choirs. In 2003, a choir competition adjudicator told him he has a beautiful voice and should consider opera as a career. So he did just that.
In the past few years the Gaabo Motho Tenors have performed at a variety of charity and corporate concerts in South Africa, Uganda and Germany.
