Traditional Handwashers is a cultural performance and hospitality act available through HDS Entertainment, based in Cape Town / Johannesburg, South Africa. This unique act brings to life a cherished Southern African welcoming tradition through rhythm, ceremony and warm engagement with guests.
Drawing on the deep cultural significance of hand-washing as a symbol of hospitality, respect and purification, the Traditional Handwashers create a memorable and meaningful experience at events. In many African cultures, washing a guest’s hands on arrival expresses appreciation and honour, especially during special occasions, ceremonies and community gatherings. This rite symbolises a fresh beginning, cleansing and welcome — inviting guests into the space with dignity and warmth.
At events, the performers often present this traditional ritual with flair — combining hands-on interaction, traditional attire and cultural nuance to offer guests an immersive welcome that reflects Africa’s rich heritage. Whether used as part of an opening segment, a themed dinner, a cultural celebration, or a tour group arrival, Traditional Handwashers offer an authentic and engaging touch that sets the tone for a warm and respectful event atmosphere.
