Sun-El Musician, born Sanele Sithole in Mooi River, KwaZulu-Natal, is one of South Africa’s most acclaimed electronic music producers and DJs. Known for his sophisticated fusion of Afro-house, deep house, electronic music, soul and traditional African influences, he has developed a distinctive sound that is both unmistakably African and internationally relevant.
Sun-El’s breakthrough came with the 2017 release of “Akanamali” featuring Samthing Soweto. The track became a major national success, reaching No. 1 on Shazam in South Africa and achieving Platinum status. At the 24th South African Music Awards (SAMAs), “Akanamali” earned him three awards: Best Collaboration, Highest Airplay Song and Highest Airplay Composer.
His debut album, Africa to the World, followed in 2018 and achieved Platinum certification. The project produced a succession of popular tracks including “Sonini” featuring Simmy and Lelo Kamau, “Bamthathile” featuring Mlindo the Vocalist and “Ntab’Ezikude” featuring Simmy.
The success continued when “Sonini” won Record of the Year at the 2019 SAMAs. His collaboration with Ami Faku, “Into Ingawe,” became another standout release, achieving 3× Platinum certification in South Africa.
Beyond his own career, Sun-El has become an important force in developing contemporary African music. He founded EL World Music, creating a platform associated with artists including Simmy, S-Tone, Ami Faku, Azana and Mthunzi, while his production work has extended to prominent artists such as Bucie and Black Coffee.
