Seasoned South African television and film producer. National Geographic Explorer, SAFTA-nominated television presenter and multi-award-winning producer, Ntokozo Mbuli is an advocate for conservation, social justice and impact storytelling.

She has transformed South African television and film by blending onscreen conservation advocacy with storytelling that empowers. She tells authentic African stories, with her work bridging environmental justice, heritage revitalization, and social impact through the power of television and film.

With just over 28 years of television production experience under her belt, within which she spent 12 years presenting and hosting television programmes and events for broadcast, Ntokozo’s career behind the camera has been accompanied by her equally successful on-screen career. Beyond her extensive portfolio of work in unscripted narratives, she’s been showrunner/executive producer on scripted projects, including: The Docket, Ashes 2 Ashes, Broken Vows, and Vutha.

A producer, director and writer with almost three decades of experience, she is the Managing Director at Sugar Bean Pictures. Her recent work includes her National Geographic project, currently underway, titled The Spoken Land; Imvelogy Seasons 1 and 2 on SABC; Wild Hope: Rhino Ops on PBS; Our Mother Lilian (a documentary on activist Lilian Diedericks) and faith series Ichibi Lendumiso on SABC.

Prior to founding Sugar Bean Pictures in 2018, Ntokozo held senior roles at Clive Morris Productions, where she was instrumental in developing major scripted and factual content for platforms like SABC, e.tv, M-Net, National Geographic and BET Africa. Notably, she created and developed the medical drama Vutha, currently airing on Amazon Prime.

Her career began in the late 1990s at the SABC, where she gained experience across live events, special broadcasts, music awards, and cultural programming. Her career reflects her commitment to storytelling that informs, uplifts, and reflects African identities.

Ntokozo’s involvement with global entities like National Geographic and HHMI Tangled Bank Studios, along with her membership in the International Academy of Television Arts & Sciences and her repeated participation as a juror for the International Emmy Awards, highlights her familiarity with international standards of excellence and her capacity to critically assess content on a global level.

 

A Seasoned media professional, Ntokozo spent over a decade as the face of SABC2’s flagship wildlife‑and‑environment show 50|50, where she rose to anchor and executive producer, leveraging her on‑screen work to spotlight conservation issues and drive tangible
