Malika Omar was born in South Africa. At a young age, she had an affinity for music and began the piano at 9 years old. She released her first album, ‘Monsoon Dew’ at the end of 2007 in South Africa and released the album in the UAE in 2008. Her next album, ‘Sand Star’, consisted of all original material and was written and produced by Joshua F. Williams and Reiner Erlings in the UAE, releasing to critical acclaim. She has since been nominated four times for music awards. Her next musical release was a charity single to raise awareness for Palestinian children in need. In the song ‘New Hope’, she sang for the first time, including writing the lyrics and music. Proceeds from the song go to the Palestine Children’s Relief Fund. During her career in the region, she has featured in ‘Arabic Fusion’, a documentary film which screened as official competition at the Gulf Film Festival and at festivals in Berlin, London, Auckland, Miami and Hawaii.
She has also performed on the catwalk during Dubai Fashion Week and for Carolina Herrera; the queen of fashion herself. Malika has said that she enjoys performing and counts performances for HH Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Makhtoum (ruler of Dubai), Princess Ameerah Al Taweel and Bill Gates amongst her favourites. She has represented a number of international fashion and beauty brands in the region, including Marks & Spencer, Jergens Creams, Balmain Watches and Anne Klein Watches. In addition to performing and recording original music, she is also known to compose for charitable causes (including a project for UNHCR) and TV shows (‘Served’ on Zee TV).
