Hout Bay Music Project educates over 80 children from the disadvantaged communities of Imizamo Yethu and Hangberg Harbour Village and surrounds. In 2003 a need for arts education and a safe , nurturing , creative environment was identified by Leanne Dollman , a Hout Bay resident and founder of the HBMP , and the Project began.
Most local schools are severly under resourced and do not offer movement classes or specialized music education opportunities . Today the HBMP ‘s over 80 students learn string instuments , viola , violin, cello and double bass , voice , drum kit , djembe drumming , dance , theory of music and play in it’s many performing ensembles . Lessons are free , as are transport and daily snacks. Homework supervision, life skills talks and outings to concerts and other wholistic activities are undertaken throughout the year.
Instruments are provided free of charge to the students and formal music exam fees are also funded by the trust. The children have undertaken 3 overseas performance tours ; 2 to Austria (2010 and 2011 ) and one to Holland (2010).

We have performed at Artscape theatre , Table Bay Hotel , The Westin Grand , The Mount Nelson , Chapman’s Peak Hotel , CTICC and Lourensford Wine Estate and so many other leading venues over the last 10 years.
