The Velvet Violins is an elegant female string quartet from Johannesburg that brings a contemporary twist to classical instrumentation. Known for their stylish interpretations of modern pop and film music, the ensemble performs popular favourites in the timeless format of the string quartet, creating a sound often described as “Bridgerton-style” strings.

The quartet was created by violinist Naomi Tagg, an internationally experienced performer who has toured extensively across Europe, the UK, Africa and the Middle East. The ensemble’s arrangements focus on weaving melodies creatively between the four players, producing rich harmonies and a refined yet accessible sound.

The musicians have performed around the world and have appeared at major events and broadcasts, including performances on BBC Radio 4 and opening performances in South Africa for international artists such as Celine Dion. Their arrangements have also been featured on television, including the HBO series The Great.
