Lucky Du Plessis has always loved doing one thing: telling stories. After completing his Marketing degree at Vega, Lucky got a job as an art director at an advertising agency. It was around this time that he started to explore standing up comedy. Within the first year, he was placed in the Savanna’s top 100 up-and-coming comics, and made it into the top 10. After that, he took his comedy all over the country, doing shows with fellow comics like John Vlismas, Robbie Collins, Joe Parker, The Goliaths and many more.

Within his first few years on the comedy scene, Lucky was nominated for a Comica’s Choice Award and continued to do shows all over South Africa. After a few years of doing advertising and comedy at the same time, he left agency life and decided to try his hand at radio. He got a job at Primedia and met Greg. Together, they became 947’s The Greg and Lucky Show.

Within a short is years, the show went from airing on Sunday nights 9pm to 1am to a weekday Afternoon drive show from 3pm to 7pm.

Lucky still does comedy and has also been the master of ceremonies at various events from Sunday times Generation, Deloitte, Dimension Data, The American Chamber of Commerce, Insurance Apprentice to private functions and weddings. He has appeared on Kyknet’s Jou Show and on Cliff Central, where he shared his interesting life story with Gareth Cliff. Lucky has also appeared in a few advertising campaigns, including a recent nappies campaign for Cuddlers, and works as a voice artists.

Light-Hearted, fund and energetic, lucky enjoys laughing and bring joy wherever he goes, whether it’s telling people his story of being adopted by a white Afrikaans Family, Making him “Lucky” to be a Du Plessis or being the Whitest Black Man because he cannot speak Vernac, and having to explain why is a story on its own…
