Based: East London
INDWE is a South African vocalist, composer and cultural producer whose work is rooted in indigenous sound while reaching into afro-jazz, experimental and cinematic musical forms. Her artistry draws on ancestral knowledge, deep listening and a strong relationship with land, story and spiritual memory, giving her performances a distinctive sense of depth and atmosphere.
Originally from the Eastern Cape, INDWE has developed a sound shaped by indigenous African instruments and vocal traditions, including the uhadi, umqangi and umrhubhe bow-harp traditions highlighted on her official channels. Earlier profiles described her music as “ethno-world with soulful intent,” rooted in Xhosa folklore and traditional melodies, while her current artist bio presents her as an artist working across heritage, innovation and immersive live performance.
Her more recent official biography places her on international stages and notes collaborations with artists including Omar Sosa and Paolo Fresu, as well as boundary-pushing projects such as her Cave Sessions, a live recording set in a coastal cave between South Africa and Namibia. In 2026, she also released a new album titled Indwe, showing that the project remains current and active.
With a live offering that feels immersive, soulful and unmistakably African, INDWE is especially well suited to festivals, cultural programmes, concert stages and premium curated events looking for an artist with both authenticity and contemporary creative reach.
