Sipho “Hotstix” Mabuse is one of South Africa’s true music legends — a singer-songwriter, drummer and multi-instrumentalist whose career has shaped the country’s popular music landscape for more than five decades. Born in Orlando West, Soweto, he first rose to prominence with The Beaters, later known as Harari, before launching a hugely successful solo career that helped define township pop, disco and crossover South African music.

Widely recognised by his nickname “Hotstix,” earned through his early mastery of the drums, Mabuse went on to become known not only as a performer but also as a gifted composer, producer and cultural ambassador. Over the years he has recorded and produced for major South African artists including Miriam Makeba, Hugh Masekela, Ray Phiri and Sibongile Khumalo, while building a catalogue that includes enduring hits such as “Burn Out,” “Jive Soweto” and “Chant of the Marching.”

His long career has been recognised with major honours, including a SAMA Lifetime Achievement Award and the Order of Ikhamanga (Silver) for his contribution to South African music. With a live presence that combines heritage, charisma and timeless audience appeal, Hotstix Mabuse remains a powerful choice for festivals, headline concerts, heritage events and premium corporate functions looking for a true South African icon.
