Claire Mawisa is a seasoned journalist, media personality and thought leader with 25 years of experience in the media industry.

Background

Claire Mawisa started modelling and 14-year old was catapulted into the spotlight when, at the age of 15, she won the prestigious Cosmopolitan Model of the Year 1994.

The Personality

The opportunity meant she travelled exotic destinations for her work assignments and graced many magazine covers. Claire has hosted various television shows across several channels has had an extensive radio career both on and off the microphone at stations such as YFM, Metro FM, Radio 2000 and Kaya FM.

At the end of 2014, Claire left Kaya FM to pursue her business interests and focus on her passion of empowering young women through her organisation Luminosity Lab – previously Planet Productions. As a qualified Life Skills coach, she facilitates various empowerment workshops. Since Claire’s partnership with Karen Burt in 2006, they have interacted with over 100 000 young females across high school, tertiary and corporate environments nationally.

In 2015 Claire joined the Carte Blanche team as an investigative journalist. Late 2018 Claire became a WWF South Africa Ambassador and Classic FM welcomed her as an On-Air Presenter in March 2019. 

Claire continues to MC, Facilitate, give Empowerment and Radio Seminars and provide Public Speaking as well as Media Training for organisations on the continent. She has worked with organisations such as AIDS Healthcare Foundation South Africa, Sasol, Public Investment Corporation, Coca-Cola Beverages South Africa, Oprah Winfrey Leadership Academy for Girls, Thebe Investments, Kimberly-Clark, Black Management Forum, Multichoice South Africa, Institute of People Management Namibia, as well as the Department of International Relations & Cooperation and others.
