Based: Cape Town

amaAmbush is based in Cape Town and specialises in the African Marimba. Their award-winning professional bands perform constantly around South Africa and overseas, and also they also provide marimba tuition to over 500 students around the Cape.

The band’s high energy performances have put them in a class of their own – they have been awarded first prize at the National Marimba Festival in Johannesburg every year that they have entered and have received a Cultural Award from the Western Cape Provincial Government.

The band has over 600 live performances to their credit. Recent performances include their CD launch at the Baxter Theatre in Cape Town, a performance with the Soweto String Quartet, a show onboard the Queen Elizabeth II (QE2), and performing at the Kirstenbosch Carols by Candlelight. Some clients include Sasol, Media 24, Pick ‘n Pay, the Department of Education, the Department of Arts and Culture, the Western Cape Premier’s Department, the University of Cape Town, the University of the Western Cape, Cape Town Tourism, BMW and DHL. They have also performed for Sir Richard Branson, Archbishop Desmond Tutu, Jaime Oliver, Madcon, Soli Philander as well as former president Nelson Mandela’s birthday celebration.

amaAmbush Marimba Band – 3-piece

3-piece marimba band, consisting of three marimbas (bass, tenor and soprano). This group is ideal for ambiance setting and background atmospheric music. The repertoire consists of traditional and popular African tunes as well as original compositions and ‘Africanised’ jazz standards. The standard booking fee covers a period of up to 2 consecutive hours at the venue. The band sets up 30mins prior to the commencement of the booking period – the instruments are quick to set up and easy to move.

amaAmbush Marimba Band – 5-piece

5-piece marimba band, consisting of three marimbas, a djembe drummer and percussionist. This diverse group produces an energetic and vibrant performance and plays a collection of popular traditional African tunes and original compositions and arrangements. The 5-piece band is able to provide background atmospheric music or a short feature performance. The standard booking fee covers a period of up to 2 consecutive hours at the venue. The band sets up 30mins prior to the commencement of the booking period – the instruments are quick to set up and easy to move.

amaAmbush SIYEZA

amaAmbush SIYEZA is a vibrant and energetic 7-piece band, consisting of three marimbas, a drum kit, a percussionist, a brass musician and lead female vocalist. SIYEZA’s lineup brings together some of South Africa’s top musicians, and features both popular African songs and original material. The group is well suited to big stages, and has performed alongside groups such as Eagle-Eye Cherry at Rocking the Daisies, and on the main stage of the Pinotage on Tap wine festival. The group is ideal for getting the audience up and dancing and for creating a vibrant atmosphere at any function.
