The Ubuntu Marimba Band is a dynamic Afro-marimba ensemble based in Johannesburg, South Africa whose vibrant rhythms and melodic beats have captivated audiences around the world.
Blending traditional African marimbas with contemporary percussion, The Ubuntu Marimba Band creates a powerful and rhythmic sound that celebrates the cultural heritage of Southern Africa while engaging listeners of all ages. Their performances feature an array of marimba tones alongside Western drums, producing a rich fusion of rhythm and harmony with deep roots in African musical tradition.
Ubuntu’s music has taken them across the globe, with appearances at international festivals such as the Ramallah and Sabestia International Festival in Palestine, as well as the Wasshoi World Performing Arts Festival in Osaka, Japan — an event that included performers from more than 70 countries.
Within South Africa, Ubuntu has played on many prominent stages including The Bassline, Johannesburg Civic Theatre, Sun City, and Nelson Mandela Metropolitan Square in Port Elizabeth. Their energetic and joyful performances have endeared them to audiences at festivals, corporate events, cultural celebrations and theatre venues alike.
The band’s repertoire ranges from powerful African rhythms to contemporary compositions, and they have also released a studio album titled Africa, further showcasing their broad musical vision and artistic depth.
