Based: Cape Town
The Ubuntu children’s choir was established in 2003, and has performed at many Corporate events in in Cape Town and surrounds. Their spirited songs are inspired by feelings and moods which the children can associate with – happiness, sadness and love.
True to their name (Ubuntu means “humanity”) the choir’s philosophy is to revive the spirit of togetherness, by promoting human values such as Love, Respect and Trust, and saying no to drugs and fighting child abuse. Most of these young children, aged between 8 and 15, are raised by single parents who are employed as domestic workers, from the disadvantaged community of Strand – Lwandle, Zola and Nomzamo location. The opportunities created for them by the Uubuntu choir, and the cultivation of their musial talents, are creating hope and joy for the children and their families, as well as their growing audience.
