The Rivertones are one of Cape Town’s best-known reggae bands, bringing an infectious mix of classic roots reggae, old-school grooves and feel-good energy to stages across South Africa and internationally.
Formed in Cape Town in 2006 by lead vocalist and guitarist Roland Geoffrey Nair, the band has built a strong following with its uplifting message of “One Love”, combining original material with reggae favourites made famous by Bob Marley, UB40 and Eddy Grant.
Frontman Roland Nair has an extensive history in South African reggae, having performed in 15 countries and for audiences of up to 75,000 people. A major career highlight saw Roland perform with The Wailers, Bob Marley’s legendary band, before being invited to perform alongside reggae icon Bunny Wailer.
The Rivertones have also supported UB40 featuring Ali Campbell on their South African tours, further establishing the band as a recognised name on the local reggae circuit.
Their live repertoire includes reggae classics such as One Love, Redemption Song, Buffalo Soldier, Could You Be Loved, Red Red Wine and Kingston Town, alongside their own original roots-reggae material.
