His journey is defined by a profound respect for the legends who paved the way, including Robbie Jansen, Mac McKenzie, Merton Barrow, Winston Mankunko, Basil Coetzee, and Ibrahim Khalil Shihab, from whom he has symbolically received the baton. Featured on the iconic *Cape Jazz Piano* album alongside the city’s most esteemed performers, Alexander continues to honor this legacy as a renowned pianist, composer, and music education.

I am passionate about carrying the vibrant legacy of Cape Jazz forward, blending the traditions of my Cape Town roots with fresh, modern jazz influences. As one of the ambassadors of the “Ghoema” sound, I strive to create music that is deeply woven into our culture while always seeking new ways to innovate. Right now, I’m excited to be working on my upcoming album—a project that pays tribute to my early days with ESP and explores new musical horizons. Alongside my work in the studio, I am proud to have served as the National Schools conductor and lead the jazz division at Stellenbosch University, where I’m dedicated to mentoring young musicians and keeping the Cape sound alive for future generations.
