Kunle Ayo is a Nigerian-born, South Africa-based guitarist, composer and bandleader widely recognised as one of Africa’s leading contemporary jazz musicians.
Born in Lagos to Yoruba parents, he first explored music through drums and thumb piano before later taking up guitar, eventually building a career that blends jazz, Afro-fusion, gospel and broader African musical influences. He turned professional after performing and recording with major Nigerian artists including Chief Ebenezer Obey, Kayode Olajide and Lagbaja, and went on to tour across Europe, North Africa and South America.

Since relocating to South Africa in 2002, Kunle Ayo has continued to expand his profile as a live performer and recording artist, earning praise from artists such as Kirk Whalum, Dave Koz and Oliver Mtukudzi.His discography includes multiple studio albums, gospel projects and live DVDs, while more recent coverage highlighted the release of his 2021 album Inner Reflection, featuring collaborators including Nduduzo Makhathini and OluJazz. With a live style built around musical excellence, warmth and audience connection, Kunle Ayo is well suited to festivals, concert programmes, premium corporate events and sophisticated private functions.
