Based: Johannesburg
Kopano Jazz Collective is a Johannesburg-based ensemble made up of highly trained contemporary jazz musicians with a strong reputation for polished, versatile live performance. The group is led by saxophonist and musical director Godfrey Mntambo together with bassist and musical director Angus Hardcastle, and has also featured pianist Josh Mokoena and drummers Enoch Marutha and Nicholas Bjorkman.
While rooted in jazz, the collective’s repertoire extends well beyond a traditional straight-ahead set. Their profiles note the ability to perform across jazz, R&B, soul, pop and hip hop, which makes them especially well suited to clients looking for a sophisticated band that can adapt to different event moods and audiences.
Recent listings and venue coverage also show the band as an active part of Johannesburg’s live jazz scene, including regular appearances linked to Rosebank’s Keyes Art Mile / Trumpet building area and newer event series such as KJC Sundays, which reinforces that this is a current working collective rather than an outdated one-off project.
With its combination of musical credibility, flexibility and contemporary city-jazz appeal, Kopano Jazz Collective is a strong fit for cocktail events, corporate functions, private celebrations, curated jazz evenings and premium lifestyle events.
