Mawhoo, born Thandeka Ngema, is one of South Africa’s prominent female Amapiano vocalists, recognised for her distinctive voice, soulful delivery and ability to blend contemporary Amapiano with Afro-pop and South African dance music.

She first captured attention with her breakout single “Umshado” in 2018 and has since built an impressive catalogue of collaborations and solo releases. Her profile grew significantly through collaborations with some of the biggest names in South African music, including Master KG, Lowsheen, Mas Musiq, DJ Maphorisa and Kabza De Small. Her collaboration with Master KG and Lowsheen on “Ngiyamthanda” became a major fan favourite, while her work on Mas Musiq’s NINI na NINI further cemented her position within the Amapiano scene.

Her 2024 EP, The Sound of Magic, surpassed 15 million streams across digital platforms, demonstrating her growing national and international audience. In 2025, Mawhoo was selected as Spotify’s EQUAL Africa Ambassador, recognising her as one of the continent’s influential female voices.
