Started playing guitar at the age of twelve.

At sixteen was doing the solo pub circuit in the Kwazulu Natal area.

Moved to Johannesburg and continued paying the solo artist dues.

Gavin Minter has played with The Genuines, Theta, Vusi Tusi, Chris Mcgregor, Thandie Klaasens, Tembi Mtshali and Johnny Fourie, Fat City, Wendy Oldfield, Jennifer Ferguson, Adamu, Tina Schouw, Blues Broers, Jimmy Dludlu, Judith Sephuma, Winston Mankunku, Hot House Flowers and the late James Phillips over the years.

Plays various venues in Cape Town including Pigalle / Alma Café / Alba Lounge / Mahogany Room / Bungalo / Paranga and Barleycorn Folk Club

Produces second sold out Cape Town Folk n Acoustic Music Festival at Fugard Theatre

Tours Sweden with new Swedish/South African Septet and records his new album with the same band at the legendry Atlantis Studios in Stockholm

Plays regular Jazz / Folk and Latin gigs around Cape Town

Performs Quay 4 with Prime Circle

Plays regular Jazz / Folk and Latin gigs around Cape Town including Cape Quarter

Plays regular Jazz / Folk and Latin gigs around Cape Town

Plays percussion on Amanda Tiffin’s Brazilian Songbook show at the Baxter Theatre

Is chosen as one of the judges at the FMR Jazz Scholarship Finals at the Baxter Theater
