“Fatman” may have a knack for comedy, but there’s no doubt that he is serious about music. His musical path comes from way, way back. His dad was a session musician and from a young age “the little fatman”, then known as Johan, loved watching his daddy in action on stage. After finishing school in Groblersdal, Johan studied music at a an academy in Pretoria and through Unisa, and then spent a year with the SANDF Entertainment Group before settling in Bela Bela with his wife Susan, who is also a music teacher, and their two children. His audition performance of Marc Cohn’s “Walking in Memphis” was enough to get both Kahn and Bobby to turn for him but it was his larger-than-life stage presence and personality that really got the coaches belly laughing.
