Led by acclaimed saxophonist Dan Shout, the Dan Shout Jazz Band brings together some of Cape Town’s finest jazz musicians, delivering sophisticated live jazz for corporate events, private functions, weddings, cocktail receptions and premium hospitality experiences.
Dan is a Cape Town-based saxophonist, composer, bandleader and musical director with an international career spanning more than two decades. A graduate of the University of Cape Town’s South African College of Music, he holds a Master’s degree in Jazz Performance and Jazz Analysis, which he completed Cum Laude.
A major highlight of Dan’s career was his seven-year tenure with legendary South African musician Johnny Clegg, touring extensively across Europe, North America, Africa, the Middle East and Australasia. His performance highlights include the North Sea Jazz Festival, Montreal Jazz Festival, Guinness Cork Jazz Festival, FIFA World Cup in Germany, Rugby World Cup in France and Nelson Mandela’s 46664 Concert.
As a bandleader, Dan draws on Cape Town’s exceptional pool of jazz talent to create line-ups ranging from an intimate duo or trio through to a full jazz quintet or larger ensemble. The music can move from elegant background jazz and swing to vibrant Cape and African-influenced jazz, depending on the event and audience. His broader Shout Music Company has been providing professional live music for Cape Town’s corporate, wedding and private-event market for more than 20 years.
