Early Life & Education

  • Born on 30 November 1975 in East London, Eastern Cape.

  • Grew up alongside his older brother under the care of his grandmother after his parents separated; they later moved around Mdantsane, Uitenhage, Port Elizabeth, and King William’s Town

  • Inspired by his mother’s love for radio (5FM, Capital Radio), and cemented his passion after CKI FM DJs attended his matric farewell

  • Trained in audiovisual communications at Thuthuka Casting (1997) and radio presenting/production at Classic FM Radio Institute (1997–98), later added a public relations qualification from Boston City Campus (2006)

Radio Career

  • 1998–99: Volunteered at youth station CKI FM (later Tru FM), then secured a five-year contract. Quickly rose through shifts—graveyard, lunchtime, and by end of year, breakfast show host for 5 years

  • 2005: Voted “Greatest Legend of All Time” at CKI FM/Tru FM; earned “Best On-Air Personality” and “Best Breakfast Show” awards

  • 2009 onwards: Recruited by Umhlobo Wenene FM (SABC) as content producer and on-air presenter; co-created the highly popular Breakfast Eyondlayo Ekuseni (B.E.E.) show with Putco Mafani and Mafa Bavuma. The weekday morning show boasts over 1.3 million weekly listeners, becoming SA’s largest

  • Also hosts the Party Time weekend show (22h‑01h) and a Friday–Saturday evening slot (18h‑22h) with ~450 000 weekly listeners

DJ & Music Production

  • Self-taught club DJ since 1997, building a strong following in the Eastern Cape and beyond

  • Founded Umdabho Entertainment (own label)—released a house compilation in 2008, with subsequent projects like Second Sermon.

  • Launched production house Me 3 Too Media (aka Uphawulwethu Trading), focusing on adverts and radio work

  • During lockdown, produced four tracks featuring Ntsiki Mazwai, MXO, Ishmael Marabe, DJ Vitoto, and Mthandazo Gatya —though he prefers to keep music a side passion, not a full-time rockstar career

TV & MC Roles

  • Hosts “Around the Bay with Pastor” on Bay TV (DSTV channel 260), reaching ~800 000 viewers nationally. The show focuses on tourism, heritage, and local personalities

  • Serves as MC and facilitator at events such as government functions, corporate gatherings, weddings, and festivals—highlight includes the 2011 Nelson Mandela Bay Music Festival headlined by George Benson

Personal Life & Values

  • Known to be introverted and shy off-air, though engaging and animated during broadcasts

  • Deeply family-oriented: raised by his grandmother, supports his ex-wife Lulu and their three children—Lwethu, Phawu, Hluhlelunje. Two years ago, married Phumza Nozewu, his girlfriend of seven years

  • Eats traditional ulusu and dombolo, and despite public mistakes—like a contentious 2020 tweet about an EFF incident—learned to be more careful on social media after a two-week SABC suspension

  • Shared that losing his mother didn’t stop him from going on air—radio provided healing and connection
