Being a company run by women for women, our primary objective is to empower women by expressing inner sensuality through an art form that does not degrade women, but elevate them to the status of a classic femme fatale (even if it’s a 5 minute escape from drab reality). The pressures put on women in today’s society have them down playing their femininity, and coercing them into believing in the over-sexualized ideals put forward by fashion mags and men’s magazines. Burlesque offers women an escape from the demanding roles of wife, mother, girlfriend or executive; giving a safe creative space where women can feel good about themselves for themselves. The best part of having built up the burlesque community in South Africa, is to watch women gain self-esteem on their own terms!
