Basadi Women of Jazz is a distinguished South African all-female jazz ensemble with a musical legacy spanning nearly three decades. Built on musicianship, sisterhood and a shared passion for jazz, the group has established a distinctive sound that is deeply rooted in South Africa while carrying strong international appeal.
Throughout their career, Basadi Women of Jazz have performed on local and international stages, earning recognition for their accomplished musicianship and powerful all-female presence. Their international achievements include receiving the Outstanding Female Jazz Group Award in Vietnam, affirming their standing as an important female voice within the jazz landscape.
The ensemble was co-founded by the late Dineo Masopha, whose vision and contribution remain an integral part of the Basadi legacy. Her commitment to music, mentorship and creating opportunities for women continues through the work associated with the Basadi R5 Foundation and the Basadi Music Development School.
Musically, Basadi Women of Jazz move comfortably between classic jazz standards, original compositions and cross-cultural musical collaborations. Their performances combine sophisticated musicianship with warmth, energy and an unmistakable sense of connection between the artists on stage.
Beyond performance, Basadi represents a broader commitment to the advancement of women in music. Through education and community initiatives, the ensemble has worked to encourage and develop the next generation of musicians, with a particular emphasis on creating opportunities for young women.
Polished, sophisticated and rich in South African musical heritage, Basadi Women of Jazz is an excellent choice for corporate events, gala dinners, conferences, festivals, cultural celebrations and premium hospitality experiences. Their performances offer audiences more than exceptional jazz — they celebrate female artistry, legacy and the enduring power of music to connect generations.
