Based: Johannesburg

Basadi Women of Jazz is a South African all-female jazz ensemble with a legacy spanning nearly three decades. Born from a shared devotion to music and to one another, the ensemble has grown into one of the country’s most distinguished voices in jazz, carrying a sound that is both deeply South African and internationally resonant.

The group’s artistry has been recognised on the world stage, including the Outstanding Female Jazz Group award received in Vietnam, a milestone that affirmed Basadi’s place among the leading women’s jazz ensembles globally.

Basadi Women of Jazz was co-founded by the late Dineo Masopha, whose vision and spirit continue to shape the ensemble’s identity and are honoured today through the work of the Basadi R5 Foundation.
