Alistair Izobell is a celebrated South African singer, actor, songwriter, producer, author, radio presenter and creative entrepreneur from Cape Town. With a career spanning more than four decades, he has become one of the country’s best-known entertainers, recognised for his powerful vocals, charismatic stage presence and contribution to South African musical theatre.
Alistair began his professional theatre career as a child in David Kramer and Taliep Petersen’s iconic District Six – The Musical, playing the role of Broertjie, the newspaper vendor. He went on to appear in major productions including The Buddy Holly Story, The DooWah Boys and Kat and the Kings. His performance as Magoo in Kat and the Kings took him to both London’s West End and Broadway in New York, with the production’s cast receiving the prestigious Laurence Olivier Award.
As a recording artist, Alistair has released numerous albums and singles throughout his career. He became particularly well known for his version of Venus, while his songwriting has also reached international audiences through songs recorded by Grammy Award-winning artists.
Beyond performing, Alistair has established himself as a producer and creative director through Alistair Izobell Productions. He has produced and contributed to numerous theatrical and musical productions and has also worked in radio and television. His theatre credits include Remembering the Lux, Langarm, Blood Brothers and Radio Classics.
Alistair is also an author and mentor who continues to support emerging performers and contribute to the development of South Africa’s creative industry. His memoir, Broken to Heal, was published in 2025 and reflects on his personal journey and experiences in the entertainment industry.
Today, Alistair Izobell remains a respected figure in South African entertainment, with extensive experience as a live performer, MC, presenter, producer and creative director.
