Alex May is an accomplished South African magician and mentalist based in Cape Town, renowned for combining sleight of hand, illusion, mentalism, comedy and audience interaction to create engaging live entertainment.
With close to two decades of professional performance experience, Alex has developed a versatile style of magic that works equally well up close amongst guests or as a structured stage performance. His strength lies not simply in performing tricks, but in creating genuine interaction with his audience, bringing humour, personality and an element of surprise to every performance.
Alex has performed extensively throughout South Africa, entertaining audiences at corporate functions, private celebrations, conferences, gala dinners and special events. His performance credits include events at prominent venues such as the Cape Town International Convention Centre (CTICC), Fancourt Golf Estate, GrandWest, Club Mykonos and the Mount Nelson, as well as an appearance at the Woordfees in Stellenbosch.
A respected member of the South African magic community, Alex has been recognised for his stagecraft through the Cape Magic Circle’s Daelin Trophy for Best Performance, an accolade he has won on multiple occasions. He was also named South African National Stage Magic Champion for 2023/2024.
Beyond performing, Alex is a creator within the magic industry. He is the author of (Menta)Lists, a publication exploring mentalism routines which includes contributions from internationally recognised mentalist Banachek. He also creates specialist sponge-magic props that have been distributed internationally.
For corporate events, Alex can perform close-up magic while circulating amongst guests, providing an excellent entertainment option for cocktail receptions, networking sessions and pre-dinner entertainment. His stage performances offer a larger interactive experience incorporating magic, mentalism, humour and audience participation.
Professional, adaptable and highly interactive, Alex May brings a sophisticated yet entertaining element to corporate and private events, turning seemingly impossible moments into memorable experiences.
