Alan Committie is one of South Africa’s leading comics. This multiple award winning performer is a character comedian, stand-up comic, actor, director, writer, producer, Master of Ceremony and even a fully qualified high school teacher. He freelances around the country and is best known for his comic one man shows: Stressed to Kill, One Man, One Remote!, TV or not TV, The Clown Jewels parts I and II , Titanic on Ice and Dick and Di .

For the last three years, Alan has been Defending the Caveman at theatres around the country to huge acclaim and even bigger houses! He took over this legendary one man show which has been running in South Africa for the last 12 years and for more than 1800 shows! Alan’s most recent shows (that he has written and starred in) are Stressed to kill (Montecasino theatre and Theatre on the Bay), Return to Sendup! (Post Box Theatre), One Man, One Remote!n(Kalk Bay Theatre), Once Upon a Laugh at the Baxter Studio, TV or not TV (at Kalk Bay Theatre, Theatre on the Bay and Montecasino Studio, Jhb) (2005 Naledi Theatre nomination for Best New Comedy and Best comic Performance; 2005 Fleur De Cap nomination for Best comic performance), Dick and Di (Montecasino, Artscape Arena), Titanic on Ice (Theatre on the Bay, Montecasino), Dracula Unclotted! (Baxter Studio) and The Clown Jewels Part I and II (Theatre on the Bay).

He has performed at the Stand Up South Africa Comedy festival in London, UK (2002) – where he also performed Dick and Di to great acclaim – and was part of all the Smirnoff International Comedy Festivals (Cape Town, Durban and Jo’burg) between 1997 and 2003! In fact, ALAN IS THE ONLY PERFORMER TO HAVE PERFORMED ON EVERY SINGLE DAY OF THE FESTIVAL ACROSS THE COUNTRY BETWEEN 1997 AND 2003!
Other recent theatre credits include Rosencrantz and Guildenstern are Dead (produced and starring Alan Committie), Noises Off (which Committie co-produced with Pieter Toerien), De Fledermaus, Loveborg’s Women , Dracula Unclotted! (2004 Fleur De Cap Nomination for best comic performance), Bedside Manners (2001 Vita nomination for Best Supporting Actor), Richard III – the untold story of Diana’s death (2001 Vita nomination for for best new script and best comic performance), Mozart and Salieri, Annie, Noises Off , Macbeth, Pump (a street theatre clown show) and Beds on Bricks which had a run off-West End at the Young Vic theatre, London.
Alan has also directed a number of projects. Most recently in 2009 he directed and produced the acapella group Not The Midnight Mass (2009 Fleur de Cap winners for best performances in a comedy revue), Stuart Taylor’s one man show Joker in the Pack and the 60’s tribute show 69. He was also assistant director on the award winning Cape Town production of HONK!
Awards
Alan has won three major awards. He was the 2008 Fleur de Cap award winner for Best Actor as Rosencrantz in Rosencrantz and Guildenstern Are Dead. He also won a South African Film and Television Award (SAFTA) for best supporting actor as Johan van der Walt in Laugh out Loud. And Alan is the 2008 Naledi award winner for best comic performance for Stressed to kill.
Television
Alan’s most recent work on MNET was his critically acclaimed six part comedy Van Der Walt’s Fault. He was also the star of series one and two of MNET’s comedy hoax show Laugh out Loud where he had a weekly rant in the guise of his alter ego: Johan van der Walt ! Alan also adds his voice to the SABC animation series URBO as multiple characters on many of the episodes.
Radio
Alan’s voice can be heard on various radio spots and his speciality is comic character voices and quirky offbeat roles… He has also been the “unofficial” film reviewer for Nic Marais’ breakfast show on KFM where he is THE FILM WURM!
