Thandiswa Nyameka Mazwai, popularly known as “King Tha,” is an award-winning South African singer, songwriter and cultural icon born on 31 March 1976 in Mqanduli, Eastern Cape. Raised in Soweto, she grew up in a politically conscious family, developing a deep appreciation for African identity, heritage and social justice.
She began her music career in the 1990s and rose to prominence as a member of the pioneering kwaito group Bongo Maffin. Following the group’s success, she launched her solo career with her debut album, Zabalaza, in 2004. The album achieved double-platinum status and established her as one of South Africa’s leading musical talents.
