Sky Tshabalala is an award-winning South African radio personality, sports broadcaster and MC, best known as a key member of East Coast Radio’s popular East Coast Breakfast team. Based in KwaZulu-Natal, Sky has developed a strong following through his energetic personality, sporting knowledge, quick wit and natural ability to connect with audiences.
Born in Vryheid, KwaZulu-Natal, Sky originally had ambitions of becoming a professional rugby player. He spent time playing rugby in Sydney, Australia, before returning to South Africa and studying Sports Management at Durban University of Technology (DUT). His move into broadcasting happened almost by chance when a friend encouraged him to submit a radio demo to East Coast Radio. His first on-air opportunity came in December 2014, and what began with a late-night radio slot quickly developed into a professional broadcasting career.
Sky’s passion and knowledge of sport led to his appointment as the sports presenter on East Coast Breakfast, where he became an integral part of the station’s flagship morning programme. Today, he appears alongside Darren Maule and Carmen Reddy, combining sports coverage with entertainment, topical conversation, humour and the distinctive KZN-focused content for which the show is known.
His broadcasting talent has received significant industry recognition. Sky was honoured in the Bright Star category at the Liberty Radio Awards, recognising emerging talent making a meaningful impact on South African radio. East Coast Breakfast was also named Best Breakfast Show at the 2019 Liberty Radio Awards, while Sky was subsequently named among the 2020 Radio Awards finalists in the Sports Presenter category.
Beyond the studio, Sky is an accomplished MC and live-event host, particularly within the sporting environment. His experience includes hosting the KwaZulu-Natal Sports Awards at Durban’s Inkosi Albert Luthuli International Convention Centre, an event celebrating leading athletes, coaches, teams and sporting organisations across the province.
