ShenFM is the stage name of Shen Winberg, a South African singer-songwriter, guitarist and live electronic performer based in Cape Town. Renowned for his energetic performances, ShenFM has developed a distinctive sound that fuses Afro-pop, house, acoustic music, jazz and world influences into an engaging live experience.
Growing up in the rural landscapes of Limpopo, Shen was immersed in the rhythms and sounds of Shangaan culture from an early age. These African musical influences continue to shape his songwriting and live performances. He later studied Jazz at the University of Cape Town, where he refined his musicianship before launching ShenFM.
What sets ShenFM apart is his innovative performance style. Using live guitar, vocals, looping technology and electronic controllers, he seamlessly blends live instruments with beats and samples in a DJ-style format. The result is an energetic, dance-driven show that combines the authenticity of a live band with the flow of a professional DJ set.
Throughout his career, Shen has performed extensively across South Africa and internationally, appearing in countries including the United States, France, Ireland, Sweden, Dubai, Argentina, Brazil, Angola, Malawi and Senegal. He has shared stages with and opened for acclaimed artists including Lionel Richie, GoldFish, Freshlyground, Watershed and Vusi Mahlasela, while also performing alongside actor and musician Jeff Bridges.
Beyond performing, Shen serves as the South African Cultural Ambassador for the World’s Children’s Prize Foundation. Through this role, he mentors talented young musicians from disadvantaged communities and leads youth performance groups on international tours, helping to showcase South African talent on the global stage.
