My name is Ryan Sandes. I am a 29 year old professional athlete from Hout Bay, South Africa.
The first marathon I ran was in July 2006. Since then, I have been passionately participating in adventure and endurance racing / trail running.
I specialize in marathon, ultra marathon and multi-day endurance events, a category in which I have had significant international achievements as well as excellent media exposure.
A significant motivating factor, which has encouraged me to continue testing the boundaries of this sport, is having had the privilege of running with Dean Karnazes, the acknowledged world leader and authority on endurance running. We ran together on the 100km leg of the Sahara Desert Challenge and shared 1st place.
Dean made history by running 50 marathons in 50 days, and was also named by TIME magazine as one of the, “Top 100 Most Influential People in the World”. Dean’s achievements continue to be source of inspiration and motivation to me.
