Orlando Venhereque started his music career, playing clarinet in 1991 at Escola Nascional de Musica, Maputo, Mozambique where he studied classical music. After 4 years he left and embarked on various workshops and private jazz lessons with number of local and international musicians and professors. In 1997, he moved from clarinet to Saxophones and flute. He has performed with the likes of Jimmy Dludlu, Sibongile Khumalo, Marcus Wyatt, Judith Sephuma and Loading Zone to name but few.
Over the years he acquired knowledge in jazz, improvisation and world music. In 2004 toured Portugal for 6 months (Euro 2004) with Timbila Muzimba Equestrian (traditional group from Mozambique).
Between 2004- 2006 he moved to Middle East U.A.E. and worked in clubs as a sideman for bands and groups from all over the world. In 2007 he made Cape Town his new home, since being established there, he has been a regular sideman for Jimmy Dludlu. In 2009 he was invited to be part of Mozambique special week in Denmark, teaching Mozambican music at the Rhythmic Music Conservator.
His other achievements are performance and concerts in Sweden and Denmark (Banda De Maputo Project). During 2010 he played with Hassan’adas, at Casa Little Brazil, in Sea Point for the FIFA World Cup. Orlando Venhereque finished recording his debut album, “Healing Africa”, which was officially launched at the Cape Town International Jazz festival 2011. At moment Orlando Venhereque is working on promoting and marketing his debut album.
