Naledi “Ledi” Masilo, a zesty and dynamic vocalist and composer born and raised in Johannesburg, South Africa certainly thinks so. Having trained in classical styles and being a self-taught Jazz vocalist, Naledi has been heavily involved in the arts from a young age. She believes that music has been gifted to the world as a tool to move lives and urge hearts to take action. She has a deep passion for human development and fell in love with Jazz after realizing that the complexities of the style are very much reminiscent of those of everyone’s lived realities. However, rather than pigeonholing herself in any one musical style she prefers to emphasise the importance of speaking a message through her music
She has broad experience performing on different stages, having being part of the Artscape Youth Jazz Festival (performing with the likes of Frank Paco and Camillo Lombard); the Grahamstown Youth Jazz Festival, a finalist of the Grandwest Open Mic Jazz Competition as well as local venues in and around Cape Town. Delivering a sonic journey that speaks straight from the soul, the singer performs an original repertoire and hand-picked covers backed by various industry greats.
