Based: Cape Town

Talented singer/songwriter Louise Day has been captivating audiences and stealing hearts since the age of ten. A true Cape Town girl through and through, her unique blend of what pundits have coined Piano-root Rock, delivered by her outstanding lingering vocals, has been showcased at some of the trendiest and musically influential venues in South Africa.

Her music career started professionally when an itch to explore the international music scene lead her to the United States where she settled for a year in Aspen, Colorado in 2005. There she began performing at Aspen’s premiere live music venue, “Bellyup (www.bellyupaspen.com), regularly opening for visiting internationally recognized artists, including the likes of the acclaimed ‘Grace Potter & The Nocturnals’ and ‘The English Beat’. This exposure resulted in a tremendous demand for her talents, and her remaining time was spent performing as a Fender Musician at the Winter X Games and Tempe Music Festival in Arizona, performing on the same stage as many international artists such as John Mayer and The Fray, as well as regular appearances on East Coast Plum TV with the ‘Morning, Noon and Night Show’. In 2006, she made her mark on Fender USA when she was approached to endorse their new range of guitars for women.

Since her return to SA, she has been charming South Africans alongside maestro musician Dylan Hichens, who accompanies the band on electric guitar,Tim Price on drums and electric percussion, the wonderfully talented Jake Waldron on bass guitar and backing vocals. The band launched their debut album “Chasing the Wind” in September 2008 to critical acclaim and had radio play-listing and live interviews on Highveld 94.7 as well as KFM 94.5 with a combined listenership of over 1 million people. The band has also been recently featured in Juice Magazine (Mango airlines in-flight magazine), Chew Magazine (One of the largest online magazines in the world), as well as articles on Bizcommunity.com, Cape Times, and the Argus. The debut album was also internationally marketed on iTunes, Amazon.com, Rhapsody, Napster, and eMusic.

2010 saw the start of pre-production work on the second album which was planned to showcase the more rock-orientated, edgier sound that had developed naturally over the last year of intensive creative exploration, with one of the SA’s top producers, Theo Crous, coming on board to add to the magic. These developments got the attention of some of the top major record labels in the industry and the band signed with Sheer Music in 2010. The bands second debut album “Swallowed by the City” was released in October 2010 and received a SAMA (South African Music Awards) nomination for best Pop Album. “The past year was all about developing the sound of the band and finding new and exciting ways to get the music to our fans.” Says Louise.

The exciting release of the bands music video ‘Sunlight’ in early 2011 saw great success on both SABC 2 and SABC 3 television stations. After a busy few months of live performances, the band are back in the studio working on their second album which will be released in 2013.

With their charismatic nature, natural ability and impressive following, there’s no doubt that this starlet and her band – pleasing on both the ear and the eye – is bound to be going places!
