Jimmy Nevis

Jimmy Nevis is an alternative pop singer-songwriter and producer behind the hit singles Elephant Shoes and Heartboxing. Based in Cape Town.
Biography

Jimmy Nevis is an acclaimed South African singer, songwriter and producer from Athlone, Cape Town, recognised for his distinctive blend of pop, soul, R&B and alternative music and for a career that has consistently combined commercial success with authentic storytelling.

Nevis burst onto the South African music scene in 2012 with his breakthrough single “Elephant Shoes”, quickly establishing himself as one of the country’s most exciting young artists. He followed with a string of radio and chart successes including “Heartboxing,” “7764,” “All About It,” “Balloon,” “F.B.A,” “Hey Jimmy” and “Ayo.” His catalogue spans four studio albums: Subliminal (2012), The Masses (2014), Chimera (2018) and Things We Don’t Talk About (2023).

Things We Don’t Talk About marked an important creative chapter for Nevis, returning to deeply personal singer-songwriter storytelling and exploring themes of relationships, identity and conversations often left unspoken. The album received two South African Music Award (SAMA) nominations and surpassed one million streams.

Throughout his career, Jimmy has collaborated with leading South African artists and producers including Kwesta, Karen Zoid, Mi Casa, Pascal & Pearce and Sketchy Bongo, while also working as a songwriter with internationally acclaimed producer Rodney “Darkchild” Jerkins. He has shared stages with and opened for international artists including Pharrell Williams, Tevin Campbell and Joe Thomas.

A compelling live performer, Jimmy has appeared at major festivals, venues and events including Kirstenbosch Gardens, Rocking the Daisies, KFM KDay, GrandWest Arena, Joburg Day, Durban Day, the Baxter Theatre and the Cape Town International Jazz Festival. His television appearances have included The Voice South Africa, Dancing with the Stars South Africa and The Masked Singer South Africa. In 2025, he completed his first UK tour, further extending his reach beyond South Africa.

In 2026, Nevis entered another significant creative phase. He released “PREY,” a socially conscious alternative-pop track addressing gender-based violence, which received its live premiere at the Cape Town International Jazz Festival. He subsequently presented Roses & Thorns, an ambitious theatrical concert production combining live music, storytelling and theatre, at Cape Town’s Homecoming Centre. The production also introduced new material including “AK87,” his tribute to Cape Town anti-apartheid activist Ashley Kriel, and Bullet Symphony, reflecting on contemporary violence within Cape communities.

His latest releases demonstrate an artist who continues to evolve: “PREY” and “In My Bed” arrived in 2026, following recent releases including “Dying to Be Loved,” “Rebel Heart,” “Never Forget” with Craig Lucas and “Secret Lovers.”

Beyond music, Jimmy has maintained a strong connection to the community that shaped him. He co-founded the Blue Collar Foundation, an initiative created to support and inspire young people from disadvantaged Cape Town communities and help broaden access to educational opportunities.

With more than a decade of hit records, award nominations and major live performances behind him, Jimmy Nevis remains one of Cape Town’s most distinctive contemporary musical voices — an accomplished performer equally suited to major festivals, premium corporate events, private functions and headline concert stages.
