Popular television and stage personality, Jailoshini Naidoo, has had a long and varied career as an actress, comedian and television presenter. She studied at the University of Durban Westville, graduating with a B.Paed Degree with majors in Drama, English and Education. Thereafter she studied Public Relations at Damelin and Communications majors through UNISA. Her experience, expertise and success on stage, television, film and radio has seen her become a household name.
Currently, a presenter on SABC2’s Eastern Mosaic, Jailoshini, has won a huge fan base through her charisma, grace, simplicity, her jovial personality and her ability to interact with all people with warmth and respect. She’s equally at ease on glamorous TV shoots travelling the world and interviewing Celebrities or when going into the poorest, communities, offering assistance and creating awareness. Her compassion ,love and affection for people is most evident in these community based projects. She previously worked as a television Continuity Presenter on MNET.
Jailoshini’s versatility and passion for the theatre saw her embrace and command the stage to become a popular and sought after actress and comedian. She has performed at major arenas all over the country, including The Market Theatre, Baxter Theatre, The Playhouse as well as the Grahamstown and Hilton Arts Festivals. Some of her most well known performances include lead roles in the multi award winning Kickstart Production’s ‘God of Carnage’ and ‘Jungle Book’, ‘Queens of Comedy’, ‘Jimbo’, ‘ The Coolie Odyssey’, ‘Curry on Laughing’ (she co-wrote this and other projects) and her one woman show ‘1949’ in which she played 38 characters. In 2010, she performed ‘At the Edge and other Cato Manor Stories’, again a one woman show where she played over 30 characters, this time as part of the Shared Histories Festival (India- South Africa). She will be performing the show in 2012 in India and at the Edinburgh festival
For her work on stage, Jailoshini was nominated twice for FNB Vita Awards, six times for Durban Theatre Awards and once for the Mercury Theatre Award, all in the category ‘Best Lead Actress”. She was also nominated for a Fools Award in 2009 for Best Actress and was runner up for the Mercury Durban Theatre Award’s ‘Most Popular Theatre Personality’. She recently won two awards at the Mercury Durban Theatre Awards in November 2011 for “Theatre Personality of the Year” and “Best Comedy performance by a Female”. She has also been selected to receive a ‘Golden Peacock Award’ from the Indian Academy of South Africa for ‘Outstanding Talent and Contribution to the Arts’, particularly in the areas of Stage, Television and as a Comedian.
On the big screen, she acted in the British film,‘The Eastern Bride’, the Italian film ‘Karol’ and popular British series ‘Strike Back 2’. She also works as a Voiceover Artist, lending her voice to many Radio Adverts and performing in Corporate Videos. She has played a variety of characters on Radio Dramas and worked as a Radio Newsreader in Oslo, Norway.
As one of Durban’s most popular Stand Up Comedians her performances in Comedy Shows include ‘Comedy Fever 2010’ and ’Queens of Comedy’. She has performed Stand Up Comedy for many Private and Corporate functions including Standard Bank, SAB and Durban Chamber of Commerce. She also performed at the Prince of Dubai’s birthday party in the Seychelles.
Jailoshini is a sought after MC/Compere who has compered many private functions from weddings to birthday parties as well as huge Corporate and Company events including , Emirates, ABSA, Eskom, Total National Awards, ZeeTV, Sanlam, Air Mauritius, ACSA (AirportsCompany SA), Old Mutual, Price Waterhouse Coopers, etc…
She presents Motivational talks, offers Confidence, Communication and Presentation Skills Workshops for Companies and for individuals. She is currently launching a series of Courses and Workshops including: ‘Television Presenter Training Courses’ and ‘Speech, Confidence and Acting Workshops’ exclusively designed for potential TV Presenters, Actors and anyone who wishes to improve his/her image, confidence, speech and presentation skills.
