It all started with Nolufefe Mtshabe’s vision that of Getting all the School children she had conducted and taught how to sing in previous years together in an alumni choir.
Established in September 1996 under the directorship of Ms. Nolufefe Mtshabe. The choir was an Alumni from then Masiyile High School Choir and Simon Estes High School Choir. This choir had spent a full year in Des Moines-Iowa State in USA on a student exchange program in 1998-1999. While there, Heavenly Voices had an opportunity to perform with the likes of Simon Estes, Ray Charles and Steve Wonder and other music sensations The Choir is mainly composed of School going youth, Unemployed Matriculants and graduates who could not further their studies due to financial constrains all they have now is their God given talent keeping them from making Criminal decisions. apart from all of that HEAVENLY VOICES CHOIR is widely regarded as the best show choir in the country.
Apart from competitions the choir also performed in many prestigious and inaugural events such as; Opening of Parliament (2000 and 2006); Opening of Provincial Legislature (2003 and 2006); Mayor’s inauguration – Cape Town; Mayor’s concert-Cape Town; The Spanish Missa flamenca-Cape Town (2002 and 2003); Guest Choir at the Polmusca (SAPS) choral eisteddfod (2003); The MAIGI Concert in Cape Town (2006); Ten years of democracy celebration in Cape Town.(2004); Cape Town Opera Gala Concert.(2001), Mandela day Legacy project by the National Housing department in Blue Downs (2011).
2011, Heavenly voices was selected to form part of the chorus of The Rewind Cantata by Philip Miller at Baxter in May. In June Heavenly Voices together with Other choirs hosted the Mandela Tribute concert and the Heritage Concert in September at Artscape theatre.
2011 the choir won the provincial Cape town championship Of the old Mutual Choir festival with Gold and rep-resented the province I the national championships bringing back home Gold again in the African piece with a shocking never seen before 95%.
2012, the choir defended their provincial title in the National Choir Festival and was the first runner up in the African piece at the South African National Championship and won Gold again representing the province in the National Choir festival. We have also started exploring singing Afri-can traditional Music Jazz and Dance.
October 06th, Heavenly Voice again was invited to take part at the Choral Celebration hosted by Artscape. During the Artscape Choral Celebration, Artscape Director of Audience Development and Education “Marlene le Roux” Said “The Heavenly Voices Choir is a phenomenal choir that manages to always serenade the nation with its beautiful heavenly African Sound yearly and there can be no choral celebration without the mighty heavenly voice”
