Based: Cape Town

Let me paint you a picture. Imagine Bradley Nowell (Sublime) and Gwen Stefani (No Doubt) had a daughter in the height of 90’s So-Cal Ska. Now imagine Felix and Harry from Cat Empire, Simon Neil (Biffy Clyro) and Jay Bones (Fuzigish) all met this gal in Cape Town and together they had one night of musically charged passion. Boom, the Nowell-Stefani love child is pregnant, but with which of these amazingly talented musicians seed inside of her? The baby comes out, they do a DNA test, and by some divine miracle it has infused all their genes to create a musical super child. Well that child would love the shit out of Grassy Spark.

Despite having been around for just over two years, Grassy Spark have played such festivals as Synergy Live, Up The Creek, Rocking The Daisies, Oppikoppi and Splashy Fen. The band fuses elements of Reggae, Ska, Rock, Latin, Old-school R&B and more creating a modern and refreshing, foot-stompin’, spine-jigglin’ sound that will leave you with a smile from ear to ear. Grassy Spark seeks to inject new life into the once mighty SA Ska scene.

If that wasn’t enough, Grassy Spark recorded and released their debut offering “The Virtual Kids” on the 21st September, from their bedrooms. They wrote, recorded, mixed and captured their infectious live sound, FROM THEIR BEDROOMS! It was then mastered by Simon Ratcliffe at Sound and Motion Studios before being released onto the World Wide Web for free, receiving over 1000 downloads in their first week.

All this in just over two years, get them before it’s too late (while they are young and exploitable). Lock up your daughters, Grassy Spark is coming to spread the seed!
