Emulating a DJ brother, and inspired by a musician father, Durban’s renowned Funky G had the right start to his ultra-successful DJ career, which immediately saw him winning his first competition at the enthusiastic age of 14.He was later hailed as 2001 Technics DMC South African DJ Champ, taking over the reigns from then-SA Champ, Ready D. Funky G’s ability to read the crowd and give them exactly what they want has seen invitations stream in from around the country as club owners and event organisers vie for his skill on the turntable.

His motivating ethos is simple: “I love making people happy. I feed on the energy from the crowd, stretching me as a DJ. It’s reciprocal.” In support of this belief, Funky G currently owns Durban’s New School Productions, specialising in Events, Music Production & DJ Lessons. Here, enthusiasts learn everything from compiling a mix to putting up a DJ battle set, with a fully equipped studio for teaching Music Production and a wide range of DJ/Production gear on sale.

This versatile DJ has also previously held a monthly spot on the 5FM Utimix @ 6, and regularly played on Metro FM’s Weekend Lockdown.
