Esau Mwamwaya is a Malawian singer and songwriter best known internationally as the frontman of The Very Best, the acclaimed collaboration between Mwamwaya and London-based production duo Radioclit. Born in Mzuzu and raised in Lilongwe, he first developed his musical foundation playing drums with local bands and performing with artists including Masaka Band and Evison Matafale before later relocating to London.
His career took a major turn after meeting producers Etienne Tron and Johan Karlberg of Radioclit in East London, leading to the formation of The Very Best in 2008. The project became known for its distinctive fusion of Malawian musical traditions with dance, pop, hip hop and electronic production, bringing Esau’s voice and songwriting to a broad international audience.
Through The Very Best, Esau Mwamwaya became associated with standout releases including the mixtape Esau Mwamwaya and Radioclit are The Very Best and the album Warm Heart of Africa, helping establish him as one of Malawi’s best-known contemporary musical exports. His live performances carry the same cross-cultural energy, making him a strong fit for festivals, world-music programmes, concert line-ups and curated events looking for an artist with both authenticity and international appeal.
