Deshun Deysel is a pioneering South African high-altitude mountaineer, international keynote speaker, business coach and facilitator whose extraordinary career spans 30 years of adventure, leadership and human performance.
In 1996, Deshun made history as the youngest member of South Africa’s first Mount Everest expedition and one of the women selected for the historic team that took South Africa’s new democratic flag to Everest. She returned to Everest in 2003, reaching within approximately 500 metres of the summit before severe weather forced her to turn back.
Across her mountaineering career, Deshun has undertaken 18 high-altitude expeditions across five continents, tackling some of the world’s most demanding mountains. Her experience in environments where preparation, teamwork, leadership and decision-making can have life-or-death consequences forms the foundation of her corporate work.
Today, through GoPeak International, Deshun translates lessons from the mountain into practical strategies for organisations and leaders navigating change, uncertainty and high-pressure environments.

Deshun uses the mountain as a powerful metaphor for business and leadership — demonstrating that reaching the summit is only part of the journey. Preparation, managing risk, choosing the right team, adapting when conditions change and knowing when to continue or change course are equally important.
Her keynote presentations combine extraordinary real-life experiences with practical leadership and performance insights, making her particularly relevant for leadership conferences, strategy sessions, transformation programmes, sales teams and organisations navigating significant change.
Her central philosophy is compelling: the summit is simply the midway point in the process.
