Dan Lu, born Dan Lufani, is an award-winning Malawian singer-songwriter and musician and one of Malawi’s established names in contemporary Afro-pop.
Originally from Mangochi, Malawi, Dan Lu began his professional music career in the early 2000s. He gained valuable experience as a member and later bandleader of the renowned Zembani Music Company, before establishing his own Rockers Band.
His breakthrough came through a catalogue of popular releases including “Part of Life,” “Mphete,” “Nsanje” and “Driver.” The success of Part of Life and his album No Size helped establish Dan Lu nationally and earned him the Best Afro-Pop Artist award at the 2011 Malawi Music Awards.
Over his career, Dan Lu has released several albums, including Shupie, Khaze, No Size and So What?, and has collaborated with artists from across Africa, including Nameless from Kenya, K-Millan from Zambia, Dizzy Don from Zimbabwe, Tay Grin from Malawi and Bongani Fassie from South Africa.
A singer, songwriter and instrumentalist, Dan Lu also plays keyboards and has experience in music production and studio arrangement.
His career continues to evolve, with more recent releases including “Imfa,” “Pumani,” “Mphete,” “Ndapata,” “Akalamba” and “Onse.” His 2023 release “Imfa” attracted significant attention in Malawi, with Dan Lu reporting that the song generated more than K15 million within its first week of release.
