Daliwonga, born Daliwonga Matiwane, is one of South Africa’s distinctive contemporary Amapiano vocalists and songwriters, recognised for his smooth melodic delivery, poetic lyrics and effortlessly soulful approach to the genre.
Born and raised in Diepkloof, Soweto, Daliwonga grew up surrounded by music. His father was a singer, and music formed an important part of family life. He also sang gospel and led a church choir, influences that helped shape the melodic vocal style that would later become his trademark.
His professional breakthrough began in 2019, when he appeared on producer Luu Nineleven’s project Simatasatasa. His collaborations within the emerging Amapiano movement subsequently connected him with leading producers and artists including DJ Maphorisa, Kabza De Small, Mas Musiq, Mellow & Sleazy, Felo Le Tee and King Monada.
Daliwonga’s solo projects Uyang’testa and Chameleon further established his reputation, while a succession of high-profile collaborations turned him into one of the genre’s most recognisable voices.
His catalogue includes popular tracks and collaborations such as “Abo Mvelo,” “Gangnam Style,” “Dipatje Tsa Felo,” “Banyana,” “Izolo,” “Jabula,” “Nguwe,” “Seduce Me” and “Simi Kanje.”
