Cathy Mohlahlana is an award-winning South African broadcast journalist, radio host, moderator and corporate MC, recognised for her intelligent interviewing style, calm authority and ability to navigate complex conversations with clarity and insight.
With close to two decades of experience in national broadcasting, Cathy has become a respected voice in South African news and current affairs. Her career spans radio and television, where she has covered some of the country’s most significant political, social and breaking-news stories.
Cathy began her broadcasting career as a reporter and radio anchor with Talk Radio 702’s Eyewitness News and Kaya FM. Her talent was recognised early in her career when she received the National Press Club Radio Journalist of the Year Award in 2009.
She later transitioned into television journalism, joining eNCA, where she anchored the evening prime-time programme NewsNight as well as the e.tv evening news bulletin. During this period, Cathy covered major national stories including the life and legacy of Nelson Mandela and the Oscar Pistorius trial.
In 2019, Cathy became one of the prominent faces of Newzroom Afrika, where she served as a senior news anchor. Her programmes included the flagship prime-time bulletin News@Prime as well as The Pulse, further establishing her reputation as an accomplished interviewer and current-affairs broadcaster.
Cathy is also a prominent voice on SAfm, where she hosts the station’s flagship current-affairs talk programme The Talking Point. The programme tackles politics, economics and the major social issues shaping South Africa, bringing together decision-makers, experts and members of the public for informed discussion.
Her work in broadcasting has earned significant recognition. In 2012, Cathy was selected to participate in the CNN Journalism Fellowship, and in 2014 she was selected as a fellow of former US President Barack Obama’s Young African Leaders Initiative (YALI). In 2015, she was named among Destiny Magazine’s Top 40 Women Under 40.
Cathy holds a degree in Politics and International Relations from the University of the Witwatersrand, providing a strong academic foundation for her work across politics, policy, economics and current affairs.
