A Cape Music Institute Alum where she received a diploma in vocals and music business, won the Open Mic Jazz competition hosted at Grandwest in 2012 had the opportunity to perform at the Cape Town International Jazz Festival. She has worked hard to cement her place in the music industry. She has been dubed as a smooth velvety warm and sultry voice.
Singing for her started at home. Her love for music and singing has always run in her family. “We would get together as a family. Sing hymns together. We could cater for every voice from soprano, to bass to alto to tenor. And music was just something that connected with me. This passion I have for music, it really comes from my heart, from my soul. I sing and perform from a place of knowing how much I love music.”
Candice performs mostly cover versions of jazz songs, pop, disco, R&B and ballades. And collaborated on a duet called “Reason To Smile” with Cape jazz artist Jonathan Rubain. A song about how people often put on a brave face and smile even though they may be hurting on the inside.
In 2015 Candice Thornton co wrote a smash with Chad Saaiman called “Superhero” under the Stereotype Records label and performed the song LIVE on one of the highest rated breakfast shows Expresso.
