Bruce Fordyce is one of South Africa’s greatest sporting legends and arguably the most famous name in the history of the Comrades Marathon. An extraordinary ultra-distance athlete, Bruce won the iconic race a record nine times, including an unprecedented eight consecutive victories from 1981 to 1988, before returning to claim his ninth title in 1990.
His international achievements include winning the prestigious London to Brighton Ultramarathon three consecutive times and setting world records over 50 miles and 100km. His remarkable dominance, discipline and consistency established him as one of the world’s great ultra-distance runners.
Beyond competitive running, Bruce played an important role in growing the running community in South Africa by introducing parkrun to the country in 2011, helping make free, community-based running and walking accessible to thousands of South Africans.
Today, Bruce is a sought-after motivational and inspirational speaker, using the lessons of elite endurance sport to explore goal setting, perseverance, resilience, motivation and sustaining high performance over the long term.
