Booshle G, born Buhle Gayika, is an exciting South African singer-songwriter whose distinctive blend of indie-pop, folk, contemporary pop and soulful acoustic influences has seen him rapidly progress from emerging local artist to an internationally touring performer.
Originally from Kariega, formerly Uitenhage, in the Eastern Cape, Booshle’s musical journey is an unconventional one. He experimented with hip-hop in his younger years before spending approximately five years as a youth pastor and worship leader. During this period, he developed his musicianship, learned instruments and discovered the storytelling approach that would later become central to his songwriting.
His music is characterised by warm acoustic textures, memorable melodies and emotionally honest lyrics, exploring themes of identity, belonging, relationships, faith, vulnerability, hope and finding connection through life’s challenges.
Breakthrough
Booshle began releasing music professionally in 2023, with early singles including “Find You There” and “These Days” introducing his folk-pop sound to South African audiences.
A significant breakthrough came with “Take Me Home,” his 2024 collaboration with ZUBIN and Paul Timitch. The track became the official anthem associated with South Africa’s premier T20 cricket competition and went on to achieve more than four million streams.
His growing profile also saw him open for internationally acclaimed British singer-songwriter Myles Smith at GrandWest in Cape Town.
Booshle subsequently expanded his career internationally, touring and performing across South Africa, the United Kingdom and Europe, including touring with Canadian indie-pop band Neon Dreams.
